1st Team Look For Strong Finish

After a strong start to the season winning the first four games, Uxbridge struggled to get a consistent side out, and at the half way stage, lie mid table winning five and losing five games.

There have been some excellent indivdual performances particularly at the top of the team with Mikkel Pederson and Andy Longman both chalking up some good wins. Mikkel was unbeaten before he unfortunately had to transfer back to Denmark with work.  Andy has won six out of the seven games he played, only losing to Jason Dodd at Oakleigh Park.

Trevor is back playing close to his best, which just goes to show that training and regular matches can to some degree offset a hearty diet of lager, fried breakfasts and fine indian cusine. Jon Thomson finally got off to winning ways two weeks ago and should win more matches in the 2nd half now he has started to adjust to division 2 squash.

With five of the eight remaining games at home and Steve Wright now back from minor knee surgery and playing well, we should be looking to finish the season in the top half of the table. Thanks go out to Mick Murray's team who have ably supported the team when necessary often filling in at very short notice.

2nds Gain Momentum

Having lost three out of the first four fixtures, the side has settled down and won the last four.

Good performances from all, but Ian and Pramjit have been particularly consistent. If the stronger players can be retained, there is no reason why Uxbridge 2nds should not finish in the top three.

Vets & Vintage Update

It’s been a mixed start for the Vets and Vintage teams.

Both the Vets sides were promoted this season. However, without any new players coming of age to support and strengthen the sides, they have struggled to compete at the higher level.

As a result they are currently in relegation positions but hoping for a strong 2nd half to move them in to safer positions.

In contrast, both Vintage teams are doing well the 2nd team are currently undefeated and the 1st team have lost only one out of the nine first half fixtures. This was against West Herts who are exceedingly strong and remain undefeated.

Strong performances from Peter Smith and David Longley (who have both only lost one game) have helped keep them in 2nd place in the league.

Au Revoir Henrik

Many of our members will know Henrik Hansen is returning to Denmark with his family. He will be a sad loss to Uxbridge Cricket Club.

On behalf of the all the members, I would like to thank him for all he has done for the Club during his few years in Uxbridge.

He has been an important part of our 1st Team, both from a playing and an organisational point of view. He was also instrumental in obtaining financial support from his employer, Danfoss.

Perhaps of more important has been his work with some of our younger players, the likes of Kit Dickeson and Jack Taylor, who have benefited enourmously from playing with him and puts the Club in good hands for the future.

On behalf of all our members, may I wish Henrik and his family all the best for the future, and who knows, we may see him back in Uxbridge in the future.

2011 Squash Club Finals Night

Congratulations to this year's winners at the Uxbridge Squash Club Finals night which saw Trevor Loran defeat Kit Dickeson to become Club Champion.

Once again a number of players succeeded in reaching more than one final, with club captain winning all three of his finals - well done Dave Longley! Dave was to beat Richard Tinsley in the Vintage finals, Harbhajan Dhillon in the Veterans Plate and Brian Rix in the Racquet Ball Plate.

New Club Champion, Trevor Loran was also to appear in more than one final, winning the Doubles final with partner Steve Wright, beating last year's winners, Mickey Brooks and Henrik Hansen. Steve was the second of three players to win two finals by beating Ilesh Khagram in the inaugural Racquet Ball final.

The third winner of two finals was Pat Offei who beat Lionel Wiggins in the Veterans final. Pat received a walkover in the 'B' final after opponent Steve Tibbles was forced to withdraw due to breaking his wrist whilst beating Lionel Wiggins in the appropriately named Handicap final.

Other winners on the night included Roger Porter who beat John Guinn in the Veterans Plate final. John had succeeded in reaching three finals where he defeated, with his partner Tom Ash, Les Chaplin and Ronan O'Dea in the Doubles Plate final. They were then to come up against one another, with Tom getting the better of John in the 'B' Plate final.

Thanks to all players that entered the tournament. The tournaments are designed to offer something to all player levels, providing opportunities for a diverse range of players.

We hope to see even more of you enter next year's finals.
